I love Advent calendars – the anticipation of opening daily for 24 days in December a little window to peak at a surprise inside. I also love chocolate of all kinds. So it’s no surprise that my hands-down favorite is Trader Joe’s Advent calendar.
Trader Joe’s Advent calendars been a holiday staple for me for years now. Where else can you get a large size Advent calendar with a fun design for only 99 cents! And then there’s the chocolate! Behind each perforated window on the calendar are 24 bite-sized piece of milk chocolate in shapes such as boots, angels, candles, bears and wrapped presents.
This year, for example, my local Trader Joe’s is offering several versions of its Advent calendar. The “North Pole” calendar features a festive illustration of penguins, polar bears and reindeer enjoying winter activities. This design of Santa’s hometown is complete with reindeer stables, gingerbread houses, a hot cocoa café, ski slopes and, of course, a Trader Joe’s store. On the back is a puzzle that has you find different items.
What are some of the other calendars? One colorful cartoon-like version depicts elves taking a lunchroom break while the toys in the factory play. Another features Santa and a reindeer on the front of the calendar with a “Joe’s Elf Name Game” on the back side.
New Calendars for Your Pets
In the last two years, Trader Joe’s has added pet-focused Advent calendars to its annual repertoire. Last year, it introduced its Advent Calendar for Dogs featuring salmon and sweet potato dog treats. The calendars were such a hit that they disappeared off the shelves before December rolled around.
This year, in addition to its dog calendar, Trader Joe’s has introduced a version for cats. The Trader Joe’s Advent Calendar for Cats features 25 treats made of antibiotic-free Atlantic salmon and dried seaweed. And similar to its canine counterpart, this feline-focused calendar is sure to disappear quickly!
