The older I get, the more I appreciate those household items that make my life easier and save my body from injury. In fact, I’ve found that some have become so indispensable for everyday use that I don’t know how ever managed without them. Here’s three of my favorites:
Long Reach Grabber
The first time I saw my mom pick up a long-reach grabber I laughed because it looked like a gag item. But I’m not laughing anymore – I’m a rabid convert. Need to pick up something that fell behind the couch? Time for the grabber! Reaching into the far corners of my trunk to get a shoe that rolled back there? Grabber to the rescue! Whether it’s getting something from the side of the refrigerator or pulling out something from the back of the closet, the grabber is an easy solution – and it saves me from tweaking my back or overstraining any muscles. Here’s a great grabber.
It’s not just for libraries! I’ve always liked how easy to use rolling library stools are, but I never thought about how practical they could be to have in the home. Then I saw one in my friend’s kitchen and immediately realized the potential.
I’ve had my library stool for a couple years now, and wish I had gotten it decades ago! It’s so simple to use. You just glide it along with a tap of your foot. When you step on the stool, it immediately locks in place. It’s a quick easy way to reach shelves and items without having to take out a folding step stool. And it can easily be scooted under the table or in a corner when not in use.
Folding Step Stool
When I need to reach dishes in high cupboards, change batteries in the smoke alarm, move boxes down from garage shelves, and other high-reach household chores, it’s time for my folding step stool. I’ve had a folding step stool for decades, and I love it! It’s sturdy, simple to open and lock, and once I’m done with the chores, it folds down compactly to store easily in the pantry closet.
